Oscars 2025: The big winner, the big disappointment, and all the recipients
These awards were also full of controversy as they were held with the shadow of the tragic Los Angeles fires still present, a fact that was reflected in the message "We Love LA", which could be seen at the end of the film clip that was played at the beginning of the show to pay tribute to the city.

The film Anora was the big Oscar winner.
The 97th edition of the prestigious Oscars took place this Sunday in Hollywood, delivering a night full of surprises and major disappointments, with Conan O'Brien making his debut as host. The ceremony was also marked by controversy, held under the shadow of the tragic Los Angeles fires. This was reflected in the message “We Love LA,” displayed at the end of a film clip shown at the start of the event to honor the city.
The big winner of the night was undoubtedly “Anora,” which took home three of the four top Oscars and shocked everyone by beating “The Brutalist” for Best Picture, despite the latter being the favorite. “Anora” also won Best Actress for Mikey Madison, Best Director for Sean Baker, and, of course, Best Picture. Already a recipient of the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, the film added the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay to its accolades, marking one of the strongest performances by any film in recent years.
Adrien Brody wins his second Oscar
Another highlight of the night was the Oscar for Best Actor, awarded to Adrien Brody for his performance in “The Brutalist.” His extraordinary acting showcased his undeniable talent, proving that, despite his career's ups and downs, including some forgettable performances, Brody has rightfully earned his place in cinema’s elite by winning his second Oscar in this category.
Brody’s first win came with “The Pianist,” the monumental film by Roman Polanski, where he made history as the youngest actor ever to win the Oscar for Best Actor at just 20 years old, despite this being one of his early big-screen roles.
Emilia Perez, the big disappointment
“Anora” was unquestionably the big winner of the night and “Emilia Perez” was undoubtedly the big loser. Despite earning 13 nominations and being considered a favorite, the controversial musical, which has faced numerous scandals and backlash for being deemed disrespectful and offensive to the Hispanic community, only received the Oscar for Best Song and Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldaña.
